I was about a decade older though, and eligible for early retirement. I've found that it really did open new doors. We returned to our home state and became active in the community at a pace I could take. Also helped a few deserving people start businesses as 'silent partner'. There's plenty to get involved with, all of it rewarding in one way or another. Just find a pace that suites your situation and talents. Teaching as substitute in local schools and lecturing at local university branch was great while I could do it as well. With your computer talents you'd be a great asset anywhere, and you could pick your own schedule, or lack of one. Best of luck to you my friend. Sorry to hear that, I know exactly how you feel.
